On the Verge of Spring: Kinderfolk on Stage is being held at T-Bock’s Upstairs on Saturday, March 19. It is the first year for this festive event, to bring in the Spring and support Kinderhaus, Decorah’s outdoor-based, Waldorf-inspired preschool. And it’s being generously sponsored by T-Bock’s Upstairs. Doors open at 7:00 P.M. And music starts at 7:30.
It will be a night of fun with music, poetry, adult coloring, appetizers and a cash bar. The featured musicians, Sweet Jenny Wren (Ellen Rockne, Lor Miller, Randi Berg and Kristin Albertson) will perform known tunes, some of which attendees will want to sing along to, as well as lesser known songs with rich harmonies, and original numbers. Stevie Ray McCargar and the Raylettes, with Otter Dreaming on piano, will perform Steve’s favorite genre: Motown. Otter will also perform a musical number (that is not Motown). Local poets Becky Idstrom, Cerissa Snethen and Charlie Langton will share some of their wonderful work as well.
Music, poetry, coloring with friends, community… What better way to celebrate a preschool? You can support Kinderhaus by giving a free will donation at the door. (Kinderhaus is a non-profit, so donations are tax-deductible.) Come out and bring in the Spring with friends and fellow community members. We’re on the verge!
Tell your friends! We’ll be having our annual Open Haus on Saturday, February 20, from 9:00-12:00.
Come explore our indoor and outdoor classrooms, meet our teachers, and learn about our Waldorf-inspired, outdoor-based philosophy!
Explore. Play. Grow.

When tasked with making a Christmas wish list for your family, do you find yourself thinking “Ugh, we just don’t need more stuff!”
What about an experience gift? What about giving the gift of Kinderhaus? We invite you to encourage your loved ones (and yourselves!) to donate to our incredible preschool in place of (or in addition to) a present under the tree.
Donors are able to earmark their contribution for a particular fund if desired:
- Equipment Fund
- Contribute to the purchase of a new computer, printer, and digital camera for our Kinderhaus staff.
- Play Fund
- Fairy Tents, garden tools, musical instruments, books… your contributions will help us grow our collection of Waldorf-inspired toys that encourage imaginative play and learning.
- Scholarship Fund
- Choose to support KinderGrant, our in-house scholarship program. Help us ensure that Kinderhaus is accessible to all children, of all families and incomes.
- Teacher Support Fund
- Your donation will support our caring and knowledgeable teachers by providing benefits, living wages, and workshop opportunities.
- Wherever Needed Most Fund
- Just like it sounds! We’ll put your donation toward our most important needs.

Thursday, Aug. 27, 5:00-8:00 and Saturday, Aug. 29, 9:00-12:00
It’s time to prepare our outdoor classroom before school starts! At Kinderhaus, we know that “many hands make light work,” and so we invite any parents or community members to our voluntary Help Days this week. In addition to preparing the outdoor space (think: weeding, spreading mulch, moving furniture, etc.), we have some inside work to be done as well, including sealing our new outdoor picnic table and indoor shelf. It’s not always the most glamorous work, but it’s usually a pretty fun time working alongside others, talking, and building relationships in our community :-)
Please wear clothes that can get dirty and bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.
We hope to see some of you there! The Kinderhaus staff and the children appreciate it!
We currently have 2, 3, and 5 day openings available for the 2015-2016 school year.
School days run from 8:45-12:15.

Tuesday, February 17, 5:00-7:00
Kinderhaus is now enrolling for the fall of 2015. Stop by our school on Tuesday, February 17, from 5:00-7:00 to meet the teachers, see the space, and learn about our Waldorf-inspired program!
The Kinderhaus teachers are happily preparing for our annual Festival of Light on Sunday, January 18, at 5:45! We hope all of our current families will be able to attend our candle light ceremony and join us for treats and conversation afterward. It will be a night for peaceful reflection as we welcome the light into our lives this winter season.
