Simplify the Season: Give the Gift of Kinderhaus

When tasked with making a Christmas wish list for your family, do you find yourself thinking “Ugh, we just don’t need more stuff!”

What about an experience gift? What about giving the gift of Kinderhaus? We invite you to encourage your loved ones (and yourselves!) to donate to our incredible preschool in place of (or in addition to) a present under the tree.

Donors are able to earmark their contribution for a particular fund if desired:

  • Equipment Fund
    • Contribute to the purchase of a new computer, printer, and digital camera for our Kinderhaus staff.
  • Play Fund
    • Fairy Tents, garden tools, musical instruments, books… your contributions will help us grow our collection of Waldorf-inspired toys that encourage imaginative play and learning.
  • Scholarship Fund
    • Choose to support KinderGrant, our in-house scholarship program.  Help us ensure that Kinderhaus is accessible to all children, of all families and incomes.
  • Teacher Support Fund
    • Your donation will support our caring and knowledgeable teachers by providing benefits, living wages, and workshop opportunities.
  • Wherever Needed Most Fund
    • Just like it sounds!  We’ll put your donation toward our most important needs.

You can use the Paypal Button below:

Or simply send a check to:

Kinderhaus Holiday Fundraiser

For each donation received, the Board will promptly mail a tax-deductible receipt and a gift notification card. This little card is a way for each donor to “pay it forward” and let someone know a gift was given in their name.

Thank you for helping to keep our little school mighty!

Blessings to you and yours this holiday season,

First Week of School!

Welcome back to another year at Kinderhaus!  Miss Mika, Mr. Steve, Miss Kristin, and Miss Rachel are looking forward to a beautiful and vibrant year with the children at Kinderhaus!  We’ll see you soon!  :-)

Parent Help Days

Thursday, Aug. 27, 5:00-8:00 and Saturday, Aug. 29, 9:00-12:00

It’s time to prepare our outdoor classroom before school starts!  At Kinderhaus, we know that “many hands make light work,” and so we invite any parents or community members to our voluntary Help Days this week.  In addition to preparing the outdoor space (think: weeding, spreading mulch, moving furniture, etc.), we have some inside work to be done as well, including sealing our new outdoor picnic table and indoor shelf.  It’s not always the most glamorous work, but it’s usually a pretty fun time working alongside others, talking, and building relationships in our community  :-)

Please wear clothes that can get dirty and bring your own gardening gloves if you have them.

We hope to see some of you there!  The Kinderhaus staff and the children appreciate it!

Openings Available

We currently have 2, 3, and 5 day openings available for the 2015-2016 school year.

School days run from 8:45-12:15.

Open Haus!

Tuesday, February 17, 5:00-7:00

Kinderhaus is now enrolling for the fall of 2015. Stop by our school on Tuesday, February 17, from 5:00-7:00 to meet the teachers, see the space, and learn about our Waldorf-inspired program!

Festival of Light

The Kinderhaus teachers are happily preparing for our annual Festival of Light on Sunday, January 18, at 5:45!  We hope all of our current families will be able to attend our candle light ceremony and join us for treats and conversation afterward.  It will be a night for peaceful reflection as we welcome the light into our lives this winter season.

The Kinderhaus Cookbook!!!

Cover shot

Save the gift!  The Kinderhaus Cookbook is almost here!

For years, parents have asked us for our snack recipes, amazed that their children were not only eating foods like kale and whole wheat bread with chevre, they were loving it. We are delighted to finally announce the creation of The Kinderhaus Cookbook.

Families and friends of Kinderhaus have been collaborating for months to create a community cookbook featuring recipes that are nutritious and delicious. The cookbook features Kinderhaus classroom snacks through the years, as well as our families’ favorite recipes, including soups, salads, main dishes and desserts. There is a wide variety of food inspiration within the book including many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free items. Our community has offered up their tried-and-true favorite recipes of foods that are not just delicious, but good for our bodies and good for the earth.

Befitting the collaborative spirit of this book, The Kinderhaus Cookbook also features artwork on every page, contributed by dozens of local artists, students and friends. In addition to food, the collection includes Kinderhaus verses, stories, and even craft recipes that share the spirit of our little school. We’ve even included a section of recipes and artwork created by our preschool children that is sure to delight your imagination.

We are so grateful for our community and the support it’s given to Kinderhaus through the years. All proceeds from the sale of The Kinderhaus Cookbook will directly benefit Kinderhaus and ensure its sustainability as the only outdoor-based preschool in the area.

The Kinderhaus Cookbook will be available for purchase for just $15 at Kinderhaus, December 15-19 from 11:45-12:15 and at the Oneota Coop beginning December 13. Join us for sampling and sales events at the Oneota Coop on December 13 and December 20 from 11:00-2:00, and at the Winneshiek Farmers’ Market on December 20 from 9:00-12:00!

Bon Appetit!  It’s Time to Eat!
